The Birth Control Implant: Implanon

Implanon is a thin rod that is inserted under the skin of the upper arm. The rod contains a synthetic hormone called etonogestrel that is released into the body over a three-year period. The manufacturer advises that during the third year less etonogestrel is released, thus making the rod less effective in preventing (or destroying) pregnancy.

How does it work?

Implanon works in three ways:
  1. It can prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary);
  2. It causes cervical mucus to thicken, which makes it difficult for a sperm to fertilize an egg.; and
  3. If that action fails, Implanon alters the lining of the uterus. This action is not painful to the woman, but can be deadly to the embryonic human being.
After the embryo's life begins, the tiny boy or girl must travel to the wall of the womb to implant. Because Implanon works to alter the wall of the uterus, this tissue becomes inhospitable to the new human being. The embryo cannot attach to the wall of the womb and get nourishment, so he or she dies.

WARNING: You may be told that the Implanon does not cause an abortion. This statement is based on the fact that many doctors decided to change the definition of when pregnancy begins, saying it only begins when the human embryo attaches to the wall of the mother's uterus.. This is dishonest and scientifically false. Don't be misled. Ask to see the product package insert, and you will read for yourself exactly how Implanon works.

Is Implanon safe?

No. Here are someof of the side possible effects:
  • irregular and unpredictable bleeding patterns
  • slight increase in weight
  • pain at the site of the insertion
  • headache
  • migraine
  • acne
  • breast pain
  • increased blood pressure
  • increased blood clots
  • abdominal pain
  • changes in libido
  • no menstrual cycle

Implanon offers no protection against sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS.

What is my best option?

Some people may try to convince you that Implanon is totally without risk. But that is not true. Don't depend on Implanon. It could be harmful to you. It could kill your baby - without you eveN knowing it.

If you're single, abstinence is always your best choice. It isn't always easy, but it alwyas works. By abstaining from sex, you eliminate the possibilty of pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease.

If you're married, be faithful to your spouse. Take time to learn about natural methods for spacing children, which will also increase your awareness of your body and how it works.

Be good to yourself. Don't use Implanon.

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find
this matter to be really something that I think I would
never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me.

I'm looking forward for your next post, I will try to
    get the hang of it!

  3. The embryo hasn't even started developing yet it is literally a sack of cells. Your body can "kill" this "baby" at this stage without you knowing too. This is gay as fuck. The possible negative side effects are the same as any hormone birth control, and this is a great long lasting option. If you have an "abstinence only" stance on birth control, do not do a review on birth control. Goodness.

I've just got nexplanon inserted today, primarily for polycystic ovarian sydrome reasons with the goal of stopping ovulation because I've had 3 surgeries. The chance of me getting pregnant is so low anyway (i cycle 2x a year), wondering what the pro-life view is.

You must be delusional hahaha. If it's not safe, why am I still healthy? Oh yea, because you are attempting to portray contraception as the devil. Perhaps you should waste your time on something else.

  6. I can't help but to feel as if this post is a bit biased. First off, I dont see how those possible symptoms are unsafe (except of the possible STDs of course). Im using the contraceptive Implant, and Im loving it so far. Me and my boyfriend both got ourselves tested, so STDs is not an issue. Also, other than the irregular periods, I havent experienced any of the other symptoms (I understand that Im just one case, while others will experience other effects). Id like to talk about my viewpoint, which is what I decided to comment for, although its a controversial subject. What I want people to understand is that people have different viewpoints. Some people are for abortion, others are against it. When I got the implant I was in full understanding about the possibilty of the fertilized egg/ embryo/ baby could die due to the wall being too thin. I still decided to get it, as me and my partner obviously dont want a baby. Im a biology student at university I can't help but to feel as if this post is a bit biased. I support the idea of abortion, but I hate the thought of going through with it myself. For myself I want to stop the possibilty of pregnancy as soon as I can (prevent ovulation, thick mucus), but if it comes to the point of the fertilized egg (my viewpoint) not being able to attach to the wall, Id still be happy knowing I wont be carrying a baby. I absolutely understand that some people will disagree with this, and I completely respect that. But at the same time, Id like those people to respect that other people will see it the same way I do.

  7. Most women see no periods as a positive, and most have none of those other side effects (with the exception of pain at the injection site- you will be tender around there for a week).
Its a contraceptive that works for five years, and has less risk than the pill

  11. This post is extremely biased and disrespectful to the scientific community. Not to mention the degradation of women for believing in their power to choose their fertility is not worth the risk.
    Terrible post.
